California Grown White Wine for Those Warm Spring Evenings
I don’t know about you, but spring is the season in which I begin drinking more white wine – California grown white wine, to be more precise. The weather is warming, flowers are blooming, bees are buzzing, and my thirst for wine sometimes requires a very chilled glass – the kind of chilled that makes the glass frost over.

Now, sure you can chill red wine if you like, and I sometimes do (don’t judge). However, there’s nothing quite like a cold wine glass full of sparkling rosé or crisp, fruit-forward sauvignon blanc. That’s why I’m sharing a few of my favorite California grown white wines to enjoy on those beautiful spring evenings. Bonus, these are perfect additions to that upcoming Memorial Day poolside soirée you’re attending.
CALIFORNIA GROWN WHITE WINE
Schramsberg Vineyards 2010 J. Schram North Coast Sparkling Wine
There’s something about cold, sparkling wine on an eighty-degree day under a blazing sun. Don’t just take my word for it – Wine Enthusiast gave this mostly chardonnay, part pinot noir blend from Schramsberg Vineyards in Calistoga, California, 97 points. You know it’s gotta be good!
This interesting, incredibly complex wine oozes with richness while still revealing a hint of underlying fruit. It’s as deep as it is complete, from its seamless integration of fruit and yeast to its never-ending stream of tiny, delightful bubbles to its exquisite balance and fantastically long finish. #CAWineClub and I put this one at the top of our sparkling wines list to bring when the occasion calls for something remarkable!
Porterhouse Winery 2019 Arroyo Seco Monterey Chardonnay
Porterhouse Winery simply makes great wines, and this chardonnay is no exception. #ad Unlike your typical buttery chardonnay, Porterhouse’s thrives on Meyer lemon and citrus peel scents followed by brilliant stone fruit flavors, minerality, and a crisp finish with noticeable acidity.
With only 750 cases produced, you can be sure you’re drinking a gem here, folks. Hosting the Memorial day soirée? Pair this refreshing California grown white wine with grilled salmon for a duo that won’t be soon forgotten.
Pedroncelli Winery 2019 East Side Vineyards Dry Creek Valley Sonoma County Sauvignon Blanc
Sauvignon blanc is usually my go-to white wine. This double gold-medal-winning sauvignon blanc is no exception. The pale yellow wine is brilliantly fragrant and true to its fruit.
This Sonoma County wine pairs well with grilled chicken or Thai food, boasting pear, Meyer lemon, and tropical fruits integrated into its fresh flavors. Citrus, green apple, grass, and a hint of minerality characterize this crisp California grown white wine with a light and airy finish.
WildEye Winery 2021 California White
When’s the last time you drank a white blend? Or, when is the last time you knew you were drinking a white blend? If your answer is never, then you’ve got to try Wileeye Winery’s blend of Viognier and Malvasia.
For the fruit-forward lover, there are notes of pear, grapefruit, and lemon-lime citrus, followed by a luscious mouthful of pineapple sweetness. With soft acidity and a voluptuous texture, this wine is a great spring release.
THE CALIFORNIA WINE CLUB & THEIR CALIFORNIA GROWN WHITE WINE
It can be difficult to commit to just one winery when you enjoy the cooler climate chardonnay versus the richer and velvety body and texture of those grown in Southern California. That is why California Wine Club is the perfect alternative.
Did you know that The California Wine Club offers several options for that part of you that has always wanted to join a wine club? In fact, you can join their Premier Series Membership and opt for 2 or 4 white wines only. They can be shipped to your home each month, every other month, or quarterly.
