TINY HOME ON WHEELS WARMING
As many of you already know, we completed our school bus into tiny home conversion last month. We kicked into high gear so that we could celebrate the Wow Wagon warming with close friends/family in Ojai. What was supposed to be five blissful, carefree days at Camp Comfort in Ojai turned into four, semi-stressful, hot, busy days.

Don’t get me wrong, it was fun and an absolute pleasure seeing and spending time with loved ones. We’re ever so grateful for everyone who showed up, helped out, and encouraged us. Not to mention, the thoughtful housewarming gifts!
Showing off all of our hard work was an added bonus. I just didn’t realize how incredibly stressful it would prove to be. For one, I was already exhausted by the time we began the drive to Ojai. It didn’t help that it was triple-digit disgustingness outside. Sir Benson was not having it. My poor baby was overheated and stressed himself, which only added to my stress. I was more concerned with him than myself.
We had to pull over twice on the way to Ojai so that I could drench my furbaby in cold water and ice. I also took him outside to get some fresh air. We also had a Zoom business meeting set up that we had to partake in. Little did they know, it took place from the parking lot of a Target in La Crescenta. A four-hour trek turned into an eight-hour one, but we eventually rolled in to Camp Comfort a little after 8pm, a day later than our reservation was made.
Relaxing Evenings in Our Tiny Home
Our first night in our tiny home was enjoyable. The nights were cool and breezy, so we just swung open the doors, put up the amazing screens I found on Amazon, and enjoyed the quiet. We laid down on our custom-built and super comfortable sofa bed, basking in how far we’d come. Looking around at all the details, we were finally able to appreciate those details instead of thinking, “Okay, what’s next?” Before nodding off, we discovered that we had forgotten one important thing – toothpaste. *palm to forehead.*
In the morning, I ordered grocery delivery, including much-needed toothpaste. Receiving our lot brought our attention to how little our refrigerator actually holds. We had to purchase a small cooler to keep some perishable items chilled. The refrigerator is great, otherwise. It’s definitely built to absorb all the wear and tear that comes from a school bus barreling down a highway at 55mph.
Wow Wagon Upgrades
By the end of a nine-day journey, it was decided, we’d head back to the high desert. There were definitely some things that needed to be addressed and some upgrades to be made. One of the major things we’re currently taking care of is an airbag suspension system for a smoother ride.
Sir Benson and I took the brunt of a thirty-year-old school bus bouncing up and down or hitting minor potholes. By the time we’d reach our destination, my lower back would be super sore, and I’d have a headache. Not to mention, the need for dramamine every time we were going to drive more than twenty minutes. And poor Benson – I can only imagine how uncomfortable he was with his lush coat of fluff!
Along with an airbag suspension system, we’re also installing a rooftop deck and a mini-split AC/heater. Unfortunately, with global warming, there really is no “following the good weather” anymore. Nine days on the road taught us this and so much more. It was a great taste of the nomadic life that awaits us. Now we know what needs to be done to make that life as comfortable as possible for all of us.
Before heading back to the high desert, we spent four nights on a beautiful ranch in Solvang, California – the Danish capital of America. We were able to get some work done and enjoy the natural surroundings while keeping Sir Benson happy, as well.
All in all, we’re happy to be finished with the brunt of the hard work. So, without further adieu, check out the most recent bus conversion completion compilation video from our YouTube channel. Be sure to like, subscribe, and share, and stay tuned for more tiny home adventures in the near future!
